History: Calgon, Take Me Away!
Sodium Hexametaphosphate's first primary use was in water softener. It was sold under the brand name Calgon. The product was introduced into the market in 1933. The iconic phrase, "Calgon, take me away" was coined by the company in the 1970's. It has been used in many cleaning solutions and it has started to be used as a food additive to raise pH.
